Inside 4482: Meet the Team is an ongoing project where we take you behind the scenes of 4482 through short interviews with the people who make it all happen. Throughout the year, we’ll sit down with different team members to hear how they joined 4482, what they’re working on, and the moments that shaped their journey here. It’s a way to share the stories, personalities, and collaborations behind the work—and to show how our team grows, learns, and builds together over time.

Introduce yourself and tell us the story of how you joined the 4482 team.
My name is Sujin Shin, and I serve as the Managing Director of 4482. I work as a freelance designer and exhibition planner, running an independent creative agency.
My connection with 4482 began in 2007, when my flatmates at the time staged an exhibition under the name 4482. Although the platform later paused for several years, I felt strongly that there was a need for a space like this—particularly for Korean artists navigating an international context. With that conviction, I relaunched and rebranded 4482 in 2017.

What is the most memorable exhibition or event you’ve been a part of at 4482?
K-Women: Celebrating Korean Female Artists stands out as the most memorable project in the history of 4482. Running from November 2024 to April 2025, it was our longest and most ambitious exhibition. Developed in collaboration with Kingston Museum, the project created a vital platform for the voices of Korean women artists through a wide range of artistic practices. Its significance was further deepened by the support of Arts Council England and numerous Korean sponsors, making it a truly collective achievement.

What do you love most about being a member of the 4482 team?
What I value most is the act of working together. Our team operates entirely on voluntary commitment, with each member supporting and complementing one another’s strengths and limitations. Building projects collectively—despite the challenges—is deeply meaningful. Even more so, meeting and working alongside people who share this level of dedication feels like a genuine blessing.
Where is your ‘soul gallery’ in London? Where do you go to recharge your artistic energy?
My soul gallery in London is the Serpentine Gallery. I’m drawn to its setting within nature and its role as an open public institution that consistently engages with the most contemporary questions. I also return every summer for the Serpentine Pavilion, a project that thoughtfully explores the relationship between art, architecture, and public space. When I need to recharge, however, I don’t always turn to galleries or museums—often, I seek nature itself. At times, quiet emptiness is more restorative than constant looking.

What’s the most unexpected or touching feedback you’ve ever received from a visitor?
One of the most touching comments I’ve received was simply, “I hope 4482 continues to exist.” It felt both encouraging and humbling at once. Another memorable moment came from a non-Korean immigrant who shared that they deeply resonated with the works of Korean artists, despite cultural differences. Experiences like these affirm the quiet but powerful ability of art to create empathy beyond borders, language, and race.
