Introduce yourself and tell us the story of how you joined the 4482 team.

Hi, I’m Dr. Gee Sun Hahn, the Lead Curator of 4482 [SASAPARI]. I joined the team in 2022 after Sujin invited me to come on board—a proposal I accepted without a moment's hesitation. I bring to the role an academic background in arts and Museum Studies, with a specialized research focus on Korean heritage and identity. My professional life is dedicated to visiting galleries and engaging with artists to find the most impactful ways to showcase Korean culture; in this regard, 4482 has become my primary gateway to the UK art world.

What is the most memorable exhibition or event you’ve been a part of at 4482?

K-Women: Celebrating Korean Female Artists is the most memorable exhibition. From the initial planning stages to the closing reception, the project was a testament to our collective teamwork and the vibrant new relationships we cultivated. This exhibition marked a strategic shift for 4482; as we reflected deeply on the future of our platform, the project emerged as a resounding success, met with overwhelming support from the community. Through this initiative, 4482 fostered much deeper connections with our artists. Beyond simply hosting a show, we engaged in meaningful dialogue regarding their specific needs and professional interests. This process redefined how 4482, as a collaborative platform, can effectively champion artists and work together to shape their futures.

What do you love most about being a member of the 4482 team?

I really believe that, at the end of the day, it’s all about the people you work with. No matter how great a project is on paper, you need a solid team around you to keep the momentum going and make a real impact. I love the team because it’s a space where I can bring up any random idea or project in my mind, and everyone is immediately there to help and cheer me on. We’re always figuring out how to make things happen together. Things might change along the way, but with this group, I know we’re always moving toward something positive.

Where is your ‘soul gallery’ in London? Where do you go to recharge your artistic energy?

It’s so hard to choose just one! My absolute favorite is the National Portrait Gallery—it’s always the first place I recommend to anyone visiting London. That said, I honestly love all the museums and galleries here. The exhibitions are so diverse, and I’m always inspired by the way they try to include everyone and tell stories that connect with people. Whether it's a huge museum or a tiny gallery, a visit always recharges my artistic energy.

What’s the most unexpected or touching feedback you’ve ever received from a visitor?

I’ll admit, working as a non-profit in the art world can sometimes feel like a bit of a mystery—it’s tough to get your name out there and find your footing. But whenever we host an opening or an event and finally meet people face-to-face, it’s a different story. Seeing how much people appreciate the journey we’re on, and hearing that 'keep going!' from our anonymous supporters, gives the whole team such a warm, positive vibe. It reminds us exactly why we do what we do.
