Inside 4482: Meet the Team is an ongoing project where we take you behind the scenes of 4482 through short interviews with the people who make it all happen. Throughout the year, we’ll sit down with different team members to hear how they joined 4482, what they’re working on, and the moments that shaped their journey here. It’s a way to share the stories, personalities, and collaborations behind the work—and to show how our team grows, learns, and builds together over time.

Introduce yourself and tell us the story of how you joined the 4482 team.

I am Seoyoung Kim, Senior Curator of 4482 [SASAPARI]. I joined the team in 2017 when 4482 was reformed and invigorated with new approaches and projects. In my professional role, I work as a curator at Kingston Museum. I am also a scholar of the 19th-century photographer Eadweard Muybridge.

What is the most memorable exhibition or event you’ve been a part of at 4482?

There are many memorable exhibitions and projects during my time with 4482 over the last nine years. Every one of them is meaningful and important for different reasons, but for me, the very first major exhibition I curated, ‘Butterfly Effect’, in 2018, will always be extra special. The exhibition was held at the Barge House, OXO Tower Wharf, showcasing the inspiring creations of several dozen Korean contemporary artists.

What do you love most about being a member of the 4482 team?

The 4482 is an evolving organisation, made up of and run by a group of creative people who share passion and enthusiasm for art. I love the energy and agility they bring to projects that 4482 organises and undertakes. Since 2017, many talented, generous and supportive individuals have joined the team. I have enjoyed the company of all past and present team members who have shared their dedication, sense of ownership and humour with me.

Where is your ‘soul gallery’ in London? Where do you go to recharge your artistic energy?

There are so many galleries and museums in London that I love and visit regularly. I don’t think I can choose a specific one, as it depends a lot on the shows they present. However, I can definitely say that the Hayward Gallery at Southbank is one of my favourites. I enjoyed the recent exhibitions of Tavares Strachan and Yoshitomo Nara at the gallery.

If you had to describe the "vibe" of contemporary Korean art to a Londoner in just three words, what would they be?

It is a difficult question, since Londoners’ perception of contemporary Korean art may be influenced by other recent hype around K-culture, including food, pop, drama, and many more. But I think "reflective," "regenerative," and "inter-generational" are good words to describe it.
