We are pleased to present the second artist talk of 2026, held in conjunction with the opening exhibition of Gachi (가치/같이): Surroundings and Companions.

Join us for Making up: from formula to stain, an artist talk with Dina Jin Bae, a London and Seoul-based artist.

Dina Jin Bae is a London and Seoul-based artist who graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Painting (2024). Bae was shortlisted for the Sarabande Foundation Scholarship (2023) and has been featured in Artists and Their Tools by Sarah Larby (V&A collection) and Soft Witness: 50 Artists, 50 Stories. 

Bae’s practice explores shame, tenderness, and inherited memory through painting, material experimentation, and installation. Working with expired or discarded cosmetics such as sheet masks, sponge applicators, and foundation puffs, materials once used to care for and conceal the body, she creates tactile compositions that hold emotional residue and resist fixed meaning. Rooted in the experience of growing up between cultures, and shaped by Confucian values and the quiet tensions of diasporic life, her work attends to unresolved histories and what remains unspoken, using abstraction to hold what is often ungraspable.

In this talk, Dina will share the key ideas and experiences shaping her practice. She will discuss her journey as an artist, her primary sources of inspiration, and how her evolving methodology translates into painting and material-led installations through the visual language of cosmetics and surface.
