Soryun Ahn

Soryun Ahn (b.1986, South Korea) is a London-based painter who studied Painting at the Royal College of Art. Grounded in inner fictionality and fantasy, she captures the reality she encounters within the canvas, weaving ancient narratives, akin to myths, with personal imagination to emerge as contemporary realities. By bridging collective myths of the past with her personal imagination, she constructs new narrative spaces, using brushstrokes that blur reality and non-reality to create a distinctive visual language.

Her paintings depict enigmatic figures—women, half-human creatures, angels, or ghosts—situated between everyday and narrative landscapes. Through their actions, such as staring, wandering, or howling, these beings evoke intimacy, memory, and the complexities of life, inviting viewers to explore reflective and imaginative spaces in a contemplative manner.
