Artist

Jiyeon Ryu

Jiyeon Ryu (b.1982, South Korea) is an interdisciplinary artist who studied organic chemistry in Sweden and art at Chelsea College of Art and the RCA in London. She explores the liminal space between imagination and reality, creating portals to worlds beyond everyday life. She constructs abstract, floating forms that defy gravity and conventional logic, inviting viewers into expansive, abstract spaces that transcend routine perception and encourage new ways of seeing.

Through her paintings, she captures intimate moments of joy and connection—from a woman embracing a man to lovers resting on a hillside. Natural settings such as hills and open spaces serve as metaphors for gathering, trust, and presence, reflecting bonds between humans, animals, and the land. In the café exhibition context, her works evoke personal memories and shared peaceful moments, making art approachable, immersive, and emotionally resonant.
